AFM Urges Financial Institutions to Embed Accessibility Beyond EAA Compliance

The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) has issued updated guidance encouraging financial institutions to strengthen accessibility efforts under the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Based on an exploratory study, the regulator found that while many organizations have improved accessibility, further work is needed to achieve full compliance and embed accessibility into everyday operations. The AFM recommends treating accessibility as a strategic objective, conducting gap analyses, involving third-party providers early, and continuously monitoring digital services. It also reminds institutions of their obligation to report accessibility non-compliance or any exemptions claimed under the EAA.
