Barcelona Unveils AI App to Simplify Complex Texts

Barcelona has unveiled a prototype mobile application developed through the European iDEM project that uses artificial intelligence to simplify complex texts and support citizen participation.

Led by the Pompeu Fabra University, the app enables users to simplify official documents or images of text and helps them draft responses for public consultations.

The prototype was piloted with older adults, people with intellectual disabilities, and newcomers to assess its accessibility and usability. The initiative aims to reduce language barriers in civic engagement and will continue to evolve based on user feedback gathered during the pilot.
