Disability Group Urges Stronger Enforcement of Public Website Accessibility Rules

The National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities (ESAMEA) has called on the government to improve enforcement of digital accessibility requirements after finding that only 20% of reviewed public sector websites included a mandatory accessibility statement. The organization made the recommendation during a public consultation on the government’s latest accessibility monitoring report, welcoming the opportunity for public input after previous reporting cycles lacked consultation. ESAMEA says stronger oversight is needed to ensure public bodies comply with legal obligations under the EU Web Accessibility Directive, which requires websites and mobile applications to be accessible to people with disabilities.
