Texas Launches Standardized Accessible Design System for State Websites

The Texas Department of Information Resources has launched the Texas Design System to help state agencies modernize and standardize their websites and online services. The system provides a shared library of reusable components and templates designed for government use.

It includes 37 ready-to-use elements such as navigation tools, forms, alerts, and page layouts built with accessibility and usability in mind. The framework is aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA standards and supports assistive technologies like screen readers across devices.

The initiative is tied to House Bill 5195, which requires agencies to improve accessibility, navigation, and overall digital service delivery. It aims to reduce inconsistency across agency websites while improving user experience.

The rollout reflects a broader shift toward centralized, accessibility-first digital infrastructure in government services.
